Carlos Kamienski received his Ph.D. in computer science from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE, Brazil) in 2003. He is a Full Professor of Computer Science at the Federal University of ABC (UFABC, Brazil) and has solid experience with the four key activities related to his position: teaching, research, outreach, and management. His current research interests include the Internet of Things, drone networks, smart agriculture, smart cities, fog/edge computing, network softwarization (SDN, NFV, P4), and the Future Internet. He was the Brazilian coordinator of SWAMP (swamp-project.org), an EU-Brazil collaborative project that developed IoT-based methods and approaches for smart water management in precision irrigation. He led the NUVEM Strategic Research Unit from 2013 to 2021, comprising faculty members and students working in five broad research lines: smart societies, virtual sensations, connected mobility, extreme computing, and integrated universes. He was vice president for graduate students from 2010 to 2014 and senior internationalization officer from 2014 to 2018 at UFABC. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Internet Services and Applications (JISA).
